Peter Donini Caps Off Winter Season With Nike Nationals Title

Courtesy of John Nepolitan (Nike Nationals)

This weekend, Peter Donini capped off his final winter season with an incredible performance at both the New Balance Nationals in Boston and the Nike Nationals in New York.

In Boston, Peter delivered a remarkable series, surpassing his previous personal record on all six throws. Two of those throws exceeded 20 meters, with his best mark of 65'9" earning him a second-place finish. He finished just behind fellow New Jersey native Anthony Liakhnovich of Hammonton, who secured the win with a massive four-foot personal best of 66'3.75".

After celebrating with his team, Peter traveled to New York to compete for the second time in two days. He breezed through prelims with a throw of 64'0.25", sitting in second place behind a Tennessee thrower by less than a foot. In the finals, Peter saved his best for last, launching a personal-best throw of 65'10.25" on his final attempt to come from behind and claim the Nike National Championship.

Later that night, Peter competed in the Nike Nationals Shot Put Showcase, a head-to-head, bracket-style competition featuring eight of the nation's top throwers. He took down each opponent—including Albert Yodakis (CBA), Ben Shue (Bergen Catholic), and Paul Hoekman (South Dakota)—to win the showcase title. While the event was just for fun, it marked Peter's third competition in just over 24 hours across two states, with all three performances exceeding 65 feet.

Peter's outstanding weekend was a testament to his years of hard work and dedication to Delbarton Track & Field. With the spring season ahead, we look forward to seeing what records he'll break next.

Congratulations to Peter on becoming a two-time All-American!
