Delbarton swept the back to back with Morris Knolls on Thursday, defeating the Golden Eagles 10-6 in Rockaway.
Lorenzo Maselli drove in five runs, including a sixth inning triple with the bases loaded, to give Delbarton a lead they would not give up down the stretch. Trailing 2-0 after one, Delbarton tied the score in the top of the third inning thanks to a double by
Matt Tafuri and a sac fly by
Danny Haggard. Morris Knolls didn't back down however, taking advantage of an error and 2 walks to load the bases. A sac fly made it 3-2, followed by three more walks to put the Golden Eagles up 5-2. Â
The top of the fourth, the Green Wave chipped away at the lead, scoring one run off a passed ball, scoring
Finnian O'Loughlin. Trailing 5-3, Maselli would strike for the Green Wave, lacing a single past the shortstop scoring Haggard and
Sal Garcia, who had gotten on by a walk and double. With the score tied at 5-5, Delbarton took advance of some miscues in the field. After
Curt Friedrich reached on an error and was sacrificed over by
Brandon Kim, Tafuri walked and Haggard reached on an error as well to load the bases. Morris Knolls gave up the lead by intentionally walking
Sal Garcia for a 6-5 Delbarton lead, and
Lorenzo Maselli made them pay for that decision, tippling to right field and clearing the bases for the 9-5 lead. O'Loughlin would cap off the scoring for Delbarton with a sac fly to right, scoring Maselli for a 10-5 lead. Â
Knolls would answer back with a run off a sac cly in the 6th, but that was as far as they would get, with
Wesley Gabriel closing out the game with 4 innings of one-run ball.Â
Kyle McBride started, but struggled with control, allowing 5 unearned runs, but walked four to go along with 4 strikeouts.Â
Brady Smith also saw action, but struggled with control, walking 5 before Gabriel would come in and secure the victory, allowing just 3 hits, while striking out 6.
Delbarton is now 5-1, heading to a weekend matchup with Governor Livingston at 1pm Sunday in North Brunswick.
