The Green Wave suffered its second loss of the season on Sunday, losing to Governor Livingston 11-4 in the Autism Awareness Challenge in South Brunswick.
Delbarton got off to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, thanks to a
Miles Handy sacrifice fly, driving in
Sal Garcia who had singled earlier in the inning. Governor Livingston responded in the top of the second, scoring two off a single to centerfield for a 2-1 lead. Not backing down, Delbarton tied the game at 2 on a
Brandon Kim bunt single and then took the lead 3-2 on a
Matt Tafuri fielder's choice, scoring
Curt Friedrich. Â
Top of the third is when Highlanders broke the game open for good Governor Livingston's Matty Diskin would homer to center with a man on, giving Governor Livingston the 4-3 lead. A hit batter and single later, Reid Bazydlo would drive in a run with a single to right field. That would be it for Delbarton starter
Ryan Holman, and
Noah Morales would enter with men on second and third. Morales would hit Ryan Pappas to load the bases, but get a huge strikeout before Zach Geertsma would unload on a pitch to center for a grand slam and a 9-3 Highlanders lead after three. In the top of the fourth, Governor Livingston added two more runs to take an 11-3 lead, with Delbarton scoring just once more in the bottom of the 4th on a wild pitch. Â
Finnian O'Loughlin led Delbarton with 2 hits, while
Sal Garcia,
Lorenzo Maselli and
Brandon Kim also had hits in the loss. Holman went 2 innings, allowing 8 hits, 5 earned runs with 4 strikeouts. In relief, Steven Pannullo was sensational, pitching two shutout innings, allowing no hits, 1 walk and striking out 4.Â
Delbarton has a packed schedule this week, with three games on the schedule against Pascack Valley, Mainland Regional and a huge showdown against Gloucester Catholic on Saturday. Â
