Delbarton Outlasts Seton Hall Prep 8–5 in Gritty, Cold Weather Clash

On a miserable April Saturday filled with rain, wind, and a coating of snow, Delbarton toughed out the elements and notched a hard-fought 8–5 win over Seton Hall Prep. The victory pushes the Green Wave to 5–1 on the season, while the Pirates fall to 3–2.

Delbarton came out sharp despite the brutal conditions, jumping out to a 2–0 lead in the first quarter on goals from Pierce Bolger and Gavin Romweber. The second quarter was all Green Wave early, as Peter Falk struck twice and goals from Alex Schobel and Will Pedicano built a commanding 6–2 lead by halftime.  The highlight of the first half was the defensive play of the Green Wave, especially goalie Tanner Shimko, who made some big saves early on to keep the Pirates off the board in the first quarter.  In one of the biggest plays of the entire season, Will Pedicano would score from midfield off a false start penalty on Seton Hall Prep, ripping an incredible shot that would bounce by the goalie with just 1.8 seconds left in the half, to regain a much needed 4 goal lead.

The third quarter was very tight for both teams, as Delbarton outscored Seton Hall Prep 2-1 in the third.  Asher Testa scored his first of the game for a 7-2 lead and Jared Baudin gave Delbarton an 8-3 lead with a rocket near the end of the third quarter.

Seton Hall Prep's Nolan Sabel did his best to keep the Pirates in it, netting a hat trick, but Delbarton's offense proved too deep and too efficient. Brandon Fodor also added an assist for the Green Wave, who finished with 14 total points on the day.

At the faceoff X, Philip Minardo and Christian Troczynski combined to win 9 of 16 draws (56%), helping Delbarton control possession, especially in the first half. In net, Tanner Shimko made nine saves on the day, anchoring a defense that held up well, stopping a late SHP surge.

Delbarton now heads on the road after a long homestand, with games against Summit and Mountain Lakes this week.
