The Green Wave Varsity Baseball team bounced back from Sunday's loss to Governor Livingston, defeating Pascack Valley 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Fluery Field. #10 ranked Delbarton scored early and that was plenty for
Finnian O'Loughlin, who was sharp on the mound, throwing 5 innings of shutout ball.
Delbarton took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as
Sal Garcia reached on an infield single, driving in
Matt Tafuri who had walked and stolen second. Advancing to third on a passed ball, Garcia would score to make it 2-0 on an O'Loughlin sac fly to right field.
Both teams would be held off the scoreboard until the bottom of the 5th inning, when Delbartron took a 4-0 lead. O'Loughlin singled in
Sal Garcia who reached earlier on an error and
Danny Haggard got an RBI on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt, driving in
Lorenzo Maselli from third.
Wesley Gabriel came in to pitch the 6th and would allow a solo home run, but settled down to retire the next four batters, before getting the final out of the 7th for the save.
Sal Garcia finished 2-4 and an RBI while Maselli,
Miles Handy, O'Loughlin and
Curt Friedrich all had hits for Delbarton. Delbarton's pitchers combined to allow just 5 hits, one run, 2 walks, striking out 7 batters.
Delbarton has a quick turnaround as they host Mainland Regional on Wednesday, before two days off in preparation for a big game against #1 ranked Gloucester Catholic on Saturday.
