Down but never out, Delbarton delivered a second-half comeback for the ages on Wednesday, flipping a three-goal halftime deficit into a commanding 9-5 victory over rival Summit in dramatic fashion.
The Green Wave struck first, with early goals from Alex Schobel and Will Pedicano giving them a 2-0 edge. Summit clawed one back just before the first quarter ended, then exploded in the second quarter—scoring four straight to grab a 5-2 lead at the break.
But that's when Delbarton made its move. With faceoffs becoming a critical focal point for Coach Kovachik, the coaching staff turned to sophomore Kane Quenault, and he delivered—dominating the X by winning 8 of 9 draws in the second half, giving the offense time to go to work.
Gavin Romweber started the run with 5:21 left in the third, followed by Peter Falk's goal to cut it to 5-4. A costly Summit offsides penalty opened the door for Pierce Bolger to tie it up, then Bolger struck again—burying a go-ahead goal with just 1.3 seconds left in the third to give Delbarton a 6-5 lead and all the momentum.
Romweber wasn't done, adding two more in the fourth to complete a hat trick, and Andrew Johnson put the finishing touches on the comeback off a loose-ball scramble.
Goalie Tanner Shimko held firm with six saves to help secure the win. Delbarton has a few days to rest, before taking on Mountain Lakes this Saturday.
