Delbarton varsity baseball delivered a dominant all-around performance on Monday, cruising to a 14-0 shutout win over Randolph behind sharp pitching from Finnian O'Loughlin and a relentless 14-hit attack.
The Green Wave wasted no time jumping on Randolph early, plating five runs in the first inning. O'Loughlin helped his own cause with a two-run single, and Curt Friedrich added a two-run double to extend the lead to 5-0. In the second, Sal Garcia—who continues to swing a scorching hot bat this season—doubled home Matt Tafuri to make it 6-0.
Delbarton then broke the game wide open with a seven-run explosion in the third. Danny Haggard drew a bases-loaded walk, followed by Tafuri's two-run single to center. Garcia ripped his second double of the day to drive in another run, and Lorenzo Maselli followed with a two-run double of his own. O'Loughlin capped the inning with an RBI single to push the lead to 13-0.
Garcia wasn't done. In the fourth inning, he lashed his third double of the day—his fourth hit overall—to drive in Tafuri once more, putting the finishing touches on a monster day for the junior slugger.
Garcia finished 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored. Tafuri went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. O'Loughlin went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and tossed 4.1 shutout innings on the mound, striking out seven and walking two. Lenny Kim closed things out with 0.2 scoreless innings.
Other contributors included Maselli (1-for-2, two runs, two RBI), Miles Handy (1-for-2), MJ Wright (1-for-2, two runs), and Friedrich (2-for-2, double, two RBI).
With the win, Delbarton is now 8-3 this season and play the second of a home and home with Randolph on Wednesday.
