The Green Wave won their final road game of the regular season, defeating Fairfield Prep 13-9 in Connecticut on Saturday, May 17.
Delbarton built a 5-0 lead in the first quarter, but saw that lead narrowly disappear by the time the halftime horn blasted. Under 9 minutes left in the first,
Will Pedicano scored his first of 2 goals on the afternoon, giving Delbarton a 1-0 lead.Â
Christian Troczynski made it 2-0 taking the ensuing faceoff to the house. On the next possession,
Gavin Romweber made it 3-0 followed by the first of three goals by
Peter Falk.Â
Brandon Fodor capped off the first quarter scoring, netting his first of the game with just under a minute remaining for the 5-0 first quater lead. Â
Fairfield Prep got on the board in the second cutting the lead to 5-1 before
Andrew Johnson scored to give Delbarton a 6-1 lead. Fairfield Prep then went on a run, scoring three straight goals to make it 6-4 with 4:10 remaining in the first half.Â
Brandon Fodor scored again to give Delbarton a 7-4 cushion, but the Jesuits scored with just 18 seconds left in the half, giving Delbarton a 7-5 halftime lead.
The second half opened with the Jesuits tying the game 7-7, scoring on the opening possession followed by the tying goal at 7:11 for a 7-7 tie. However, the Green Wave did not back down and
Chase Houser scored on a beautiful fake dodge and spin to score his first of the game for the 8-7 lead. However, Fairfield Prep tied it again with 5:50 remaining for the 8-8 score. Captain
Will Pedicano took possession off a ground ball, taking it to the house for the 9-8 lead with 3:46 left in the third.Â
Peter Falk added to the lead in the fourth completing the hat trick with 2 straight goals, opening the Delbarton lead to 11-8 with 4:55 left in the 4th quarter.Â
Asher Testa's first of the game built a 4 goal lead, but again, the Jesuits fought back. With 3:23 left, they cut the lead to 12-9.Â
Jared Baudin sealed the victory for Delbarton with 2:22 left, scoring his first of the game and Delbarton came away with a big 13-9 road victory. Â
Tanner Shimko made 14 saves, while Troczynski won 6/10 faceoffs. Phil Minardo and
Kane Quenault both went 4/8 at faceoffs, helping Delbarton control possession for much of the afternoon.
The boys finish off the regular season this week against Bernards (Tuesday) and St. Augustine (Friday) before preparation begins for the Non Public tournament.
