The Green Wave finished the regular season in a big way, defeating #2 ranked St. Augustine Prep on Friday, May 23 12-5.
Brandon Fodor got thing started as Delbarton scored on its opening possession for the 1-0 lead.
Gavin Romweber made it 2-0 with 7:49 left in the first. The Hermits kept it close, scoring with 5:16 left to make the score 2-1 Delbarton, which would stay that way through a full quarter of play.
The second quarter saw St. Augustine tie the game at 2-2 on Ryan Diamond's second of the game at 8:56. The ensuing faceoff was won by Delbarton by violation and
Gavin Romweber made the Hermits pay, making a great play to keep possession and ripping a shot for the 3-2 lead. St. Augustine answered right back again off the faceoff and tied the game up 3-3 with 7:46 left in the first half. As he's done all season long, captain
Will Pedicano came up big with 5:20 remaining in the second, putting home a shot for a 4-3 lead after a big
Tanner Shimko save. The score remained 4-3 at the half. Â
The Hermits opened the second half with a bang, scoring with 9:59 remaining to tie the game 4-4. However,
Chase Houser responded with one of the most incredible shots this season, picking up a saved shot by
Alex Schobel, and sending a behind the back shoulder shot past the goalie for a highlight reel 5-4 lead. A forced turnover by the Delbarton defense led to a fast break and Romweber was there for Delbarton once again, scoring his third of the game for a big two-goal lead, 6-4. Â
With a 6-4 lead in going into the fourth, the Green Wave hit the gas, starting with
Alex Schobel who scored his first of the game with 9:14 left for a 7-4 advantage. The Hermits answered back to make it 7-5, but that was all they would get for the rest of the afternoon as Delbarton went on a run of 5 straight goals.Â
Bobby Cusimano netted his first of the game and
Jared Baudin followed with a snipe for his first of the afternoon for the 9-5 lead with 4:10 remaining.Â
Andrew Johnson scored a big goal making it 10-5 and
Chase Houser went top right off a dodge for the 11-5 lead.Â
Brandon Fodor, who opened the scoring, closed out the game for Delbarton, scoring his second and the team's 12th goal for a 12-5 advantage with 29 seconds left in the game. Â
