Delbarton Baseball advanced to the Morris County Tournament semifinals this weekend, defeating Parsippany 10-0 on Friday followed by an 11-7 win over Pequannock on Saturday.
On Friday,
Finnian O'Loughlin threw a 5 inning no-hitter, striking out 3 and walking two in Delbarton's 10-0 win. Delbarton led 7-0 after just two innings, scoring three more runs in the final two frames for the 10-0 victory. Shortstop
Sal Garcia finished just a triple shy of the cycle, finishing with 6 runs batted in and scoring two runs himself.Â
Matt Tafuri was on base three times, scoring two runs.Â
Miles Handy went 1-3 with an RBI, while
Ryan Holman finished 2-3 with a single and double. and RBI.Â
Danny Haggard had a 2-RBI double and
Brandon Kim finished 1-3 with 2 runs scored. Â
On Saturday, Delbarton mounted a big comeback, battling back from an 0-4 deficit to defeat Pequannock in the MCT Quarterfinal round at Brian Fleury Field. Trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning, Delbarton clawed back to tie the game.Â
Danny Haggard singled in
Ryan Holman, then after a
Curt Friedrich single, a
Brandon Kim double play moved Haggard to third. Danny would score on a wild pitch, followed by a triple to center by
Matt Tafuri.Â
Sal Garcia followed up with a mammoth 2-run home run, tying the game at 4-4. The bottom of the 5th gave Delbarton its first lead as Haggard scored on a wild pitch to give Delbarton a 5-4 lead. The bottom of the 6th is where Delbarton broke open the game. Tafuri walked, Garcia was hit by a pitch and
Lorenzo Maselli reached on an error to load the bases. An rbi hit by pitch by
Miles Handy gave Delbarton a 6-4 lead, followed by another run batted in via HBP by O'Loughlin.Â
Ryan Holman grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Maselli and Handy. Up 9-4, Friedrich made it 10-4 on a fielder's choice and
Brandon Kim singled to left for an 11-4 lead.Â
Wesley Gabriel came in to close the game out, but allowed three runs to score before striking out the final batter for the 11-7 final.
On the mound, Holman went 2.2 innings, allowing 8 hits and 4 runs. The winning pitcher was Steven Pannullo who threw 3.1 innings in relieft, allowing just a single hit while striking out 6!
Delbarton will host the semifinal round on Saturday, with the Green Wave facing Mt. Olive at 3pm from Fleury Field.
