Varsity Baseball Opens MCT With Back-To-Back Wins

Delbarton Baseball advanced to the Morris County Tournament semifinals this weekend, defeating Parsippany 10-0 on Friday followed by an 11-7 win over Pequannock on Saturday.

On Friday, Finnian O'Loughlin threw a 5 inning no-hitter, striking out 3 and walking two in Delbarton's 10-0 win.  Delbarton led 7-0 after just two innings, scoring three more runs in the final two frames for the 10-0 victory.  Shortstop Sal Garcia finished just a triple shy of the cycle, finishing with 6 runs batted in and scoring two runs himself.  Matt Tafuri was on base three times, scoring two runs.  Miles Handy went 1-3 with an RBI, while Ryan Holman finished 2-3 with a single and double. and RBI.  Danny Haggard had a 2-RBI double and Brandon Kim finished 1-3 with 2 runs scored.

On Saturday, Delbarton mounted a big comeback, battling back from an 0-4 deficit to defeat Pequannock in the MCT Quarterfinal round at Brian Fleury Field.  Trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning, Delbarton clawed back to tie the game.  Danny Haggard singled in Ryan Holman, then after a Curt Friedrich single, a Brandon Kim double play moved Haggard to third.  Danny would score on a wild pitch, followed by a triple to center by Matt Tafuri.  Sal Garcia followed up with a mammoth 2-run home run, tying the game at 4-4.  The bottom of the 5th gave Delbarton its first lead as Haggard scored on a wild pitch to give Delbarton a 5-4 lead.  The bottom of the 6th is where Delbarton broke open the game.  Tafuri walked, Garcia was hit by a pitch and Lorenzo Maselli reached on an error to load the bases. An rbi hit by pitch by Miles Handy gave Delbarton a 6-4 lead, followed by another run batted in via HBP by O'Loughlin.  Ryan Holman grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Maselli and Handy.  Up 9-4, Friedrich made it 10-4 on a fielder's choice and Brandon Kim singled to left for an 11-4 lead.  Wesley Gabriel came in to close the game out, but allowed three runs to score before striking out the final batter for the 11-7 final.

On the mound, Holman went 2.2 innings, allowing 8 hits and 4 runs.  The winning pitcher was Steven Pannullo who threw 3.1 innings in relieft, allowing just a single hit while striking out 6!
