The Green Wave's 2025 season came to a close on Wednesday, June 4 dropping an 8-6 decision to Don Bosco Prep. The Green Wave held a 6-1 lead after 3 innings, but a big 4th inning tied the game and the Ironmen would go on to take an 8-6 lead and close out the game.
Don Bosco got on the board first to take a 1-0 lead, but the third inning saw Delbarton take control in a big way. With one out,
Brandon Kim singled to center. A
Matt Tafuri walk and
Sal Garcia single loaded the bases. Finn O'Loughlin reached on an error by the third baseman, scoring Kim for the 1-1 score.Â
Miles Handy followed with a single to right, driving in 2 for a 3-1 lead.Â
Lorenzo Maselli singled on a bunt to third for a 4-1 lead, still with one out.Â
Ted Masino reached on an error by the pitcher making it 5-1 and
Danny Haggard placed a perfect sac bunt, finishing the scoring in the inning with a 6-1 advantage. Starter
Ryan Holman induced a perfectly played unassisted double play in the bottom of the third to keep the 5 run lead, however that would all change in the 4th. Â
O'Loughlin took over on the mound for Holman to start the 4th and the Ironmen went to work. 2 walks and a single loaded the bases. A 2-run single cut the Delbarton lead to 6-3 before the Green Wave got a big out with 2 men on. The next pitch was sent over the left field wall for a game-tying home run, finishing the inning 6-6. Â
Delbarton threatened to score in the top of the 5th, but a base running mistake ended the inning and the scoring threat, leaving the game tied 6-6. Don Bosco took the lead in the bottom of the 5th thanks to a 2-run single with the bases loaded off reliever
Steven Pannullo. The Green Wave would not score again, and the season would come to a close in the state semifinal.
The Green Wave finished the year 24-5 with a very talented core returning next year!
