Rain Can't Dampen The Green Wave: Weekly Sub-Varsity Report

Despite a week filled with weather delays and cancellations, Delbarton's sub-varsity teams stayed focused and continued to perform at a high level, earning big wins and strong individual performances across our multiple spring sports.

JV Tennis remained unbeaten, overcoming two rainouts to post back-to-back shutouts. The team shutout Chaminade 8-0 on Saturday and followed it with a 5-0 sweep over Morris Hills. Captain Owen Armstrong stepped up from 4th to 3rd doubles to fill in for teammates taking AP exams—and delivered a win.

JV Baseball bounced back from their first loss in 2 seasons in dominant fashion, outscoring opponents 24-0 over two games. The team showed a complete performance on both sides of the ball.  Ted Masino pitched 5.2 innings in the JV Tournament win, allowing 2 hits, striking out 12.  Carter Willis had 5 hits including a home run and 2 doubles.  Dylan Temple was clutch on offense with 4 RBI and 4 runs scored.

Freshman Baseball earned a 5-1 win over St. Peter's Prep on Saturday before Tuesday's game was rained out. Evan Johnson was excellent on the mound, throwing six innings with no earned runs and six strikeouts. Connor Bresler executed a perfect push bunt and went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Jayden Dagner exploded at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two extra-base hits and five RBIs. Alex Checcio also had a standout pitching performance earlier this spring, tossing five shutout innings with six strikeouts against Millburn.

Freshman Lacrosse continued their strong season with a 4-2 victory over Darien in the Connor Corish Tournament and a convincing 16-8 win over Bergen Catholic on May 7. Goalie Luca Zuena recorded 12 saves and allowed just two goals vs. Darien, while attackman Tucker Kumpf added a goal and two assists to help lift the team.

JV Lacrosse had limited action due to rain, but delivered a gutsy performance in a narrow 6-5 loss to Chaminade on Saturday in Long Island. The defense stood out, holding Chaminade to their lowest goal total of the season and just their second single-digit scoring game all year.

JV Golf remained perfect on the year, improving to 6-0 with a 154-175 win over Ridge. Myles Jackson fired a 2-under-par 34 at Basking Ridge Country Club, while Massimo Riccio added a 1-over 37 to lead the Green Wave. Monday's match vs. Morristown-Beard was canceled, but the team continues to roll through its schedule with depth and consistency.

Middle School Baseball faced two rainouts and played just one game—a hard-fought 6-5 loss to Briarcliff Middle. Pitchers Dilan Sharma and Maxwell Cuzzocrea were effective on the mound, and Daniel Mendoza led the offense with solid at-bats throughout the game.

Middle School Lacrosse extended its winning streak dating back to April 29. Despite a cancellation on Monday, the team posted dominant victories over Far Hills Country Day (11-4) and MKA (11-0). Gavin Pasic stood out with 5 goals against MKA in his first appearance at attack. Goalie Graydon Dziadzio continues to impress as a 7th grader, anchoring the defense with excellent communication and smart clears. RJ Readlinger added 2 goals vs. Far Hills and continues to be a dominant two-way long-stick midfielder. Anthony Poliseno has solidified his role as a lock-down defender with strong clears and high lacrosse IQ.

Middle School Tennis shook off a rainout on Monday to defeat Far Hills Country Day 3-2 on Tuesday. Euan Kang continued his undefeated season with a key win at first doubles, helping secure the team victory.
