As the 2025 spring season comes to a close, our sub-varsity teams once again showcased the depth of Delbarton athletics with a blend of talent, teamwork, and determination. Here's a look back at a fantastic final week across all levels:
JV Tennis
The JV Tennis squad turned in a perfect 15-0 regular season and took 2nd place at the JV Tournament. Remarkably, the team lost only four individual matches all spring. They wrapped up the year with back-to-back 5-0 sweeps over Westfield and Watchung Hills. A dominant season from start to finish thanks to the guidance of head coach Peter O'Connell.
JV Golf
Our JV Golf team went 10-0 and is widely considered the best JV squad in the state. All nine team members contributed meaningful scores throughout the season, demonstrating true team depth. Standouts included freshmen Axel Brandes and Massimo Riccio with season averages of 39, while sophomores Myles Jackson (40) and Andrew Matter (41) also impressed. Six of nine players broke 40 at least once—congratulations on a spectacular team performance led by coach Nicholas Linfante.
JV Baseball
After defeating St. Joe's Regional 8-6 to earn a spot in the JV Tournament final, the team dropped a Monday match up to Mendham 10-5 but rebounded in impressive fashion. A 9-5 win over Don Bosco—on their home field—secured back-to-back JV titles for the Green Wave, who finished an outstanding 15-2 for coach Daniel Szelingowski.
Middle School Tennis
The team made significant strides this season, finishing 3-9 but showing clear improvement down the stretch by winning two of their final three matches. They capped off the season with a 3-2 victory over Summit Middle, providing strong momentum heading into next year for coach Patrick Savidge and the team.
Middle School Lacrosse
A stellar 11-2 campaign was capped off with a championship! The team defeated Heritage Middle 13-4 to claim the 2025 GMCJSCA title on Ryan Family Field. The boys played hard all season with the offense scoring just under 11 goals per game. The defense was strong all season, pouncing on ground balls and the faceoff x was a strong spot all season long. The future of Delbarton Lacrosse is bright for coach Rob Flynn.
Freshman Lacrosse
The Freshman Lacrosse team put together an impressive 13-2 season. They earned a gritty 6-4 win over Fairfield Prep before closing the year with a 7-2 victory against Bernards. A strong foundation of talent and discipline was evident all spring. The team rattled off 11 straight wins after losing to Seton Hall prep 7-6 in OT back in April. The boys also won the Connor Corish Tournament this season, defeating Don Bosco 13-7 in the final, at Don Bosco. Exceptional on both ends of the field all season long for head coach Neil Murphy.
JV Lacrosse
One of the most dominant teams this season, JV Lacrosse finished 15-2. After a 7-2 win over Fairfield Prep, they closed out their year in style with a 13-0 shutout of Bernards. The team had big wins this season against top programs including an amazing 6-5 double OT win over Brunswick, a 10-5 win over Haverford, 10-3 vs. Don Bosco, 5-4 vs. Seton Hall Prep and 13-1 win over Malvern Prep. Thanks to the guidance of head coach Matt Corica, the future is bright for the lacrosse program.
Freshman Baseball
Despite a rain-impacted schedule, Freshman Baseball still finished with an impressive 13-5 record. The season finale was a highlight—Alex Checcio pitched a complete-game shutout against Seton Hall Prep, and Alex Rosciano delivered a defensive clinic in center field to seal the 6-0 win. The team had terrific pitching all season, and timely hitting, especially on the road where they went 7-1 this season for head coach Tom Bennett.
Middle School Baseball
The team showed great resilience, bouncing back from an 0-3 start to finish 5-6. They went 3-2 in their final five games and wrapped up their season with an 11-4 victory over Kinnelon, showing grit and growth throughout the season for head coach Matthew White.
Congratulations to all of our sub-varsity athletes and coaches on a successful and exciting spring season! Your hard work, sportsmanship, and team spirit continue to make Delbarton proud.
