The Green Wave dropped a close 5-3 decision to Middlesex High School on a rainy Thursday afternoon at Brian Fleury Field.
Delbarton led 1-0 after one inning thanks to a
Miles Handy single, scoring
Sal Garcia. However, Middlesex would take a 2-1 lead in the top of the 4th off starter
Ryan Holman, thanks to a two-out, 2 run single. Middlesex doubled their lead in the 5th, thanks to an RBI double to left followed by a single to left, making it 4-1. Delbarton fought back in the bottom of the inning as
Sal Garcia walked with the bases loaded and
Lorenzo Maselli hit an rbi groundout to first to cut the deficit to 1, 4-3 after 5 innings. A sac fly in the top of the 6th gave Middlesex a two-run lead, 5-3. In the bottom of the 7th, Delbarton tried to claw back in to win the game, but came up just short. A
Brandon Kim and
Sal Garcia put two men on, but Maselli grounded into a fielders choice and with 2 outs and men on second and third,
Miles Handy grounded out to short to end the comeback.
Delbarton is back in action tonight against Montville before the MCT semifinal tomorrow at 3pm from Fleury Field.
