Delbarton Wrestling Wins Catholic School Duals, Defeats CBA In Final

Delbarton Wrestling continued its run of dominance this weekend at the Catholic School Duals at CBA, capturing the team title for the third straight year with four convincing victories across two days of competition.

The Green Wave opened the tournament Friday with back-to-back shutouts, defeating Holy Cross 81-0 and Red Bank Catholic 68-0. Against Holy Cross, Delbarton won every bout by forfeit, technical fall, major decision, or pin. Connor Glory set the tone early with a pin just 15 seconds into his match at 132 pounds, while Ryan DeGeorge picked up his first win of the season with a 15-0 technical fall at 144.

In the second dual of the day against Red Bank Catholic, the depth of Delbarton's lineup was on full display. Freshman Anthony Lopera delivered a strong performance at 106 pounds with a 17-2 technical fall. Glory followed with another pin at 132, and Gabe Logan needed only 41 seconds to earn a fall at 175. Alex Rosciano added a hard-fought 5-3 decision at 113, while technical fall victories came from August Moser, Cameron Sontz, DeGeorge, CJ Betz, and Brody Ismael. Jayden James capped the dual with a fall at 165.

Saturday's semifinal brought Delbarton its toughest test of the weekend in a matchup with St. Peter's Prep. The Green Wave jumped out to an early 15-0 lead as Finn Andersen, Rosciano, and Sontz each won by technical fall. Tommy Marchetti followed with a tight 4-3 decision to make it 18-0. After St. Peter's earned points in the middle weights, Nick Schwartz swung momentum back with a pin at 150. Trevor Jones and Jayden James added technical falls, Betz earned a fall at 190, and wins by Ismael and Moser at 215 and 285 sealed a 49-13 semifinal victory.

In the championship dual, Delbarton defeated host CBA 41-26 behind several statement performances. Marchetti delivered a 20-5 technical fall, and Braden Jones came up big at 138 with a pin at 2:52. Schwartz added a 15-4 major decision at 150, while Trevor Jones earned three crucial team points with a gritty 3-2 win in the ultimate tiebreaker at 157. James continued his dominant weekend with an 18-3 technical fall, Betz secured a fall at 190 in 1:30, and forfeit wins by Moser and Sontz helped close out the title.

With the championship, Delbarton Wrestling once again affirmed its place at the top of the Catholic school ranks.  The team now looks to regroup and prepare for a cross-country flight to California as they head west for the Doc Buchanan Invitational.
