Delbarton closed out the regular season in style on Senior Day, skating to a 5–2 win over Pope John on Wednesday afternoon to finish the regular season at 13-1-3.
The Green Wave struck first in the opening period, as Thomas Keough opened the scoring off a crisp setup in front from Chris Migliaro and Sean O'Gwen to give Delbarton a 1–0 lead after one.
Pope John answered early in the second. Playing a man down for a five-minute major, the Lions scored a power-play goal from Noah Bernstein to even the game, but Delbarton responded immediately — and emphatically. Aidan Pasic buried a shorthanded goal to swing momentum back to the Green Wave and send them into the second intermission up 2–1.
The third period belonged entirely to Delbarton. Marco Zimovcak got things rolling with a goal off feeds from Pasic and Egor Andreev, pushing the lead to 3–1. Sean O'Gwen followed with a power-play snipe, finishing a well-worked sequence from Matteo Conte and Pasic. Zimovcak capped a standout afternoon with his second goal of the game — another power-play strike from the blue line — this time off an assist from Cole Hurst to make it 5–1.
Pope John added a late goal from Marcell Buki, but the outcome was long decided.
Ryan White earned the win in net for Delbarton, stopping 6 of 8 shots faced. The Green Wave special teams were a major factor, finishing 2-for-3 on the power play while also adding a shorthanded goal.
On a day dedicated to honoring Delbarton's seniors, the Green Wave delivered a complete performance on both sides of the puck — a fitting way to close the regular season.
The team now turns its focus to the Gordon Cup playoffs where they look to defend their cup championship from last season.
