Sal Garcia Sparks Delbarton Baseball 3-1 Victory In Mid-Atlantic Challenge

Delbarton opened play in the Mid-Atlantic Baseball Challenge on April 9 with a gritty 3-1 win over Don Bosco Prep, using timely hitting and clutch defense to secure the victory.

Locked in a scoreless pitchers' duel through five innings, both teams struggled to break through against strong starting efforts. Ted Masino was sharp for the Green Wave, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just four hits and striking out six to keep Don Bosco off the board.

The Ironmen finally scratched across a run in the top of the sixth to take a 1-0 lead, but Delbarton responded immediately — and decisively — in the bottom half.

After working the bases loaded, Sal Garcia delivered the biggest swing of the game, ripping a three-run double to left to flip the deficit into a 3-1 lead. Despite being limited to just three hits on the day, the Green Wave capitalized on opportunities, drawing four walks and getting hit by five pitches to generate offense.

John Fedun took over on the mound and closed the door, earning the win with two innings of relief. Don Bosco threatened in the seventh, putting two runners on with two outs, but Garcia came through again — this time in the field — making a leaping catch to end the game and preserve the win.

Delbarton improved to 6-2 on the season with the victory and face Poly Prep in the North bracket final.
