Delbarton Baseball Wins First Mid-Atlantic Baseball Challenge

Delbarton jumped early, held on late, and left no doubt about its place atop the state.

The Green Wave captured the Mid-Atlantic Championship on Sunday with a 7–5 win over Gloucester Catholic, riding a big fourth inning and fending off a furious rally in the bottom of the seventh to secure the title—and the No. 1 ranking in New Jersey.

After three scoreless innings, Delbarton broke the game open in the fourth. The Green Wave plated four runs in the frame to seize a 4–0 advantage.  Lorenzo Maselli doubled home Sal Garcia, after a Finn O'Loughlin single, Ted Masino singled home Maselli.  Dylan Temple ground out advanced the runners and Danny Haggard bunted for a base hit, scoring O'Loughlin. Masino scored the fourth run of the inning on a wild pitch. After Gloucester scored a run in response, Lorenzo Maselli gave Delbarton a loud run with an opposite field home run to open the 6th inning.  Delbarton would tack on two more in the 7th as Matt Tafuri would single and score on a no-doubter home run on the next pitch to by Sal Garcia, extending the lead to 7–1 and putting themselves in command heading into the final inning.

But Gloucester Catholic didn't go quietly.

Trailing by six, the Rams erupted for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to 7–5 and bring the tying run into play. Delbarton, however, slammed the door before the comeback could be completed, securing the final outs and the championship.

Garcia (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Maselli (2-for-4, 2 RBI) led the offensive charge, while Finnian O'Loughlin and Ted Masino each added two hits to keep the pressure on. Danny Haggard also delivered an RBI in a key spot as Delbarton made the most of its four-hit day.

On the mound, Noah Morales set the tone with five strong innings, allowing just one run while keeping Gloucester Catholic off balance throughout. The bullpen carried the game into the seventh finishing off the win for Morales.
