Delbarton battled back from an early deficit but ultimately came up short in a 9–7 loss to Seton Hall Prep on Saturday.
The Green Wave (8-3) found themselves chasing the game from the opening whistle, as Seton Hall Prep struck three times in the first quarter behind goals from Bryce Pfeffer, Owen Dunleavy, and Alex Ante to take a 3-0 lead. The Pirates extended the margin early in the second before Delbarton got on the board, with Jack Sheridan finishing off a feed from Brandon Fodor. Still, Seton Hall answered to carry a 5-1 advantage into halftime.
Out of the break, Delbarton began to find its rhythm. Sheridan added his second of the day—again assisted by Fodor—before Pierce Bolger cut the deficit to two, 5-3. But each time the Green Wave gained momentum, Seton Hall Prep responded, pushing the lead back to three heading into the fourth quarter.
Delbarton made one final push in the closing frame. Bolger opened the scoring in the fourth to make it 6-4, and after another Seton Hall Prep surge stretched the lead to 8-4, the Green Wave responded with three of the next four goals. Chase Houser scored twice in the quarter, while Fodor added a goal and an assist during the late run. Houser's second goal, assisted by Matthew Good, brought Delbarton within two at 9-7, but time ran out before the comeback could be completed.
Houser (2G, 1A), Fodor (1G, 2A), and Sheridan (2G) paced the offense, while Bolger added two goals of his own. Good contributed a pair of assists in the effort. At the faceoff X, Kane Quenault (12-for-16) and Jesse DeNegri (3-for-4) combined to win 75 percent of draws, giving Delbarton consistent possession throughout the game.
Delbarton completes its road trip on Tuesday, April 21 vs. Pope John before returning home on Thursday.
