After a slow start, Delbarton responded like an experienced team to earn an 8-7 win in Westfield on Tuesday night.
The Green Wave erased a three-goal first-quarter deficit and outscored Westfield 8-4 over the final three quarters to improve to 7-1 on the season.
Westfield came out sharp and built a 3-0 lead after one quarter, but Delbarton settled in during the second. The Green Wave defense tightened up and the offense began to find its rhythm, scoring twice in the quarter to cut the deficit to 3-2 by halftime thanks to goals by Michael Giordano and Christian Troczynski.
Delbarton took control in the third. Four different goals fueled a 4-1 quarter as the Green Wave turned a one-goal halftime deficit into a 6-4 lead entering the fourth. Jack Sheridan tied the score at 3-3, then goals from Brandon Fodor and two from Chase Houser helped give Delbarton the third quarter lead they would not give up. From there, Delbarton added two more goals and held off a late push from Westfield to secure the one-goal win.
Brandon Fodor led the offense with two goals and two assists, while Chase Houser added two goals and one assist. Pierce Bolger, Jack Sheridan, Christian Troczynski, and Michael Giordano each scored once. Kane Quenault continued to dominate at the faceoff X, winning all 14 of his draws while scooping up a game-high 14 ground balls. Jesse DeNegri also went 2-for-2 on faceoffs.
Troczynski won 2 of 3 faceoffs, helping Delbarton finish 18-for-19 at the stripe as a team. That possession advantage proved critical in the comeback effort.
In goal, Matty McGinty made five saves to help the Green Wave close out the win.
The team now heads to Notre Dame for the Domer Classic.
