Delbarton Football Wins a Thriller Against DePaul

The Green Wave opened their home schedule on Saturday, September 28, hosting #9 DePaul at Regan Field.  The Green Wave, coming off a last minute loss to Woodrow Wilson last week, came into the game hungry and ready to even their record to 2-2.  Meanwhile, DePaul came into the game 2-1, having defeated Pope John and Seton Hall Prep before losing week 2 to St. Joe's of Montvale.

Both teams scored in the first quarter and Delbarton took a 14-9 lead at halftime.  The stifling Delbarton defense kept DePaul off the board in the 3rd quarter, adding a field goal to make it 17-9 going into the fourth.  Sean Link had four sacks on the afternoon while Andrew Reale chipped in with two interceptions.  DePaul fought back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Delbarton 8-0 to tie the score and send the game to overtime.  Jake Jarmolowich kept the game alive, blocking what would have been a game-winning field goal with two seconds left in regulation.

Delbarton quarterback Cole Freeman and the Green Wave offense then went to work, scoring in all three overtime periods.  Freeman found Jarmolowich in the first two overtimes then scored on a 20-yard rushing touchdown to give the Green Wave the lead for good.  Delbarton also converted all three of their two-point conversions in the overtime periods.  In the third OT, the Delbarton defense stopped DePaul's two-point conversion, winning the game 39-37.  "Our whole offense took over (in overtime)," Freeman said. "We definitely played lights out. Everyone worked so hard coming in, and it really came together for us at the end."

Delbarton moves to 2-2, while DePaul fell to 2-2.  This is DePaul's first ever divisional loss since the formation of the SFC in 2016.

Congrats on a huge home victory Green Wave!
