Delbarton football faced a tough challenge on Saturday afternoon, falling 42–7 to state power Bergen Catholic in Oradell.

The Green Wave (3-4) struck early in the first quarter when quarterback Gavin Gilardi connected with Matt Tafuri for an electrifying 80-yard touchdown, tying the game at 7–7. Tafuri finished the afternoon with 104 receiving yards and the lone score for Delbarton.

From there, Bergen Catholic's explosive offense took control, scoring 35 unanswered points behind quarterback Trey Tagliaferri, who threw four touchdown passes, including two to Austin Busso and an 89 yard throw to Bryan Porter. Running back Najee Calhoun added two rushing scores for the Crusaders (6–1), who built a 28–7 halftime lead and never looked back.

Gilardi completed 5 of 10 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown, while Kobe Irby-Mason paced the Delbarton ground game with 38 rushing yards on eight carries.

Delbarton will look to bounce back next weekend as the Green Wave welcome DePaul Catholic to William O. Regan Field.  Kick off set for 1pm.
