After a long bus ride to Warwick, Rhode Island and shaky start to the match, the varsity rugby team settled down in the second half and earned a nice road win 38-0.
Colin Ardise '22 scored two tries including a highlight reel chip and chase to open the scoring on Saturday.
Ryan Carey '22 scored one try and was stout defensively, making more than ten individual tackles. Drew Ardise '22 shined at flyhalf, distributing the ball well all day, organizing the defense, while scoring a try and kicking four conversions for a total of 13 points and
Alex Estey '24 ran a successful lineout and carried well in attack, setting up a teammate in the second half for an easy try after a long run and deft offload.
"Congrats to the veteran players on righting the ship and to all the underclassmen making their varsity debut in Rhode Island," says head coach
Nick Linfante. This was the first ever meeting between Delbarton and Bishop Hendricken in rugby, though the teams have played against one another in hockey before.
After the match, the Hawks coaches and supporters put on an exceptional social for the players. We hope to see them make the trip to Morristown next spring for the rematch! Delbarton continues to play away from home, as they travel Saturday for a match against Fairfield Prep, before taking on CBA on Sunday, May 15.
Congrats on a successful road trip and best of luck this weekend!
