Despite falling 19-0 early in the first half, the Green Wave football team showed tremendous heart and determination on Friday night, playing St. Peter's Prep until the final whistle in Jersey City, falling 32-27.
Trailing 19-0 in the second quarter, the Delbarton offense got going.Â
Ryan Trafford scored a 29-yard td from Rob Russo to cut the lead to 19-7 at half.Â
Philip Folmar opened the second half with an 8-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 5, 19-14. St. Peter's Prep would answer back with a 35-yard touchdown, for the 26-14 lead. The Green Wave would not quit, as Russo threw his third touchdown of the night, this time hitting
Michael Vaccaro for the 18-yard touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Delbarton would take the lead as
Ryan Trafford scored his second score of the night, this time punching it in from 5-yards out for a 27-26 lead. St. Peter's Prep would answer back late in the 4th, with Isaiah Giles scoring the game winner for the 32-27 victory.
Rob Russo had his best offensive game of the year, throwing for 358 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Trafford ran for 131 yards and a touchdown and had 119 yards receiving and a TD.Â
Philip Folmar made 3 catches for 89 yards and Austin Kivler had a team-high 9 catches for 71 yards.
The Green Wave return home to take on Clifton on September 24 at 1pm.
