Delbarton wrestling brought an almost complete roster to Abbot Clarke Gym on Wednesday night, as the Green Wave defeated Mt. Olive 58-12.
Wednesday night marked the return of many starters returning from either injury or illness, but none bigger than senior starter and returning state champion Simon Ruiz. Ruiz returned for his first match of the season, after a knee injury kept him off the mat for the first month and a half of the season.
At 106, Delbarton kicked off with a 16-1 TF by Dylan Palentchar. A 113 forfeit put the Green Wave down 6-5, but wins by Jayden James and John Hager gave Delbarton a 12-6 lead. After a loss at 132, Delbarton won an impressive six-straight matches by fall. Luca Stefanelli would win at 138, followed by Tyler Vazquez, who wrestled up a class at 144, winning by pin at 3:44. Cross Wasilewski won by fall at 3:53, followed by Alessio Perentin at 157.
Louis Cerchio was back in the lineup at 165, winning by pin at 1:15 before Simon Ruiz made his return official at 175, winning by major decision 14-3. Henry Forte would make quick work at 190, winning by pin at 1:47 and Connor Martin capped off the win with a pin at 285.
Delbarton returns to the mat on Thursday, January 12 in Sparta against Pope John. Match time is set for 7pm.
