Jack Alexy '21 Places Second at NCAA Championships

Just three weeks after his younger brother Rob Alexy '23, defended his title in the 100 at the NJSIAA State Championships, Jack Alexy '21 had an outstanding meet at the 2023 NCAA Championships.

Jack played an integral part in helping the University of California Golden Bears secure its second straight national championship.  Jack swam on three relays for Cal at the meet, with the team placing 4th in the 200 Medley Relay, 2nd in the 200 Freestyle Relay, and 2nd in the 400 Freestyle Relay.  In both the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays, his Cal relay finished under the previous NCAA record, but finished runner-up to the Florida Gators.  In the 400 free relay, Jack notably had the fastest 100 split of the entire field.

Individually, Jack had huge best times and secured important points that helped distance Cal from the other teams.  In the 50 yard freestyle, Jack came into the meet as the 23rd seed.  After dropping .36 seconds in prelims, Jack qualified 5th in a time of 18.77.  At finals, Jack swam in a loaded heat that included 4 swimmers that swam at the Tokyo Olympics in addition to the reigning World Champion in the 50 meter freestyle.  Ultimately, Jack finished in 6th place in 18.87, securing his spot as an NCAA All-American.

On Saturday, Jack competed in the 100-yard freestyle and entered as the 6th seed with a best time of 41.42.  Jack dropped a huge swim in the prelims session and qualified 1st with a time of 40.88 seconds.  At night, Jack was again swimming in a heat littered with 5 Olympians from Tokyo.  Jack had another incredible swim in the finals, touching the wall in 2nd place behind Canadian Olympian and Florida Gator, Josh Liendo.

Delbarton is incredibly proud of the great work by Jack and congratulations to the Cal Bears on their NCAA Championship!  Rob will be joining his older brother at Cal next fall, and we can't wait to see their continued success on the team.
