In a thrilling late-game comeback for the second straight week, Delbarton, ranked No. 3 in the NJ.com Top 20, secured a 17-13 win over Paramus Catholic on Friday night in Paramus. The victory was clinched by Grant VanRaaphorst, who scored a 78-yard touchdown with just 1:24 remaining, lifting the Green Wave to a hard-fought road win.
The game started with Paramus Catholic taking control early. They entered halftime with a 7-0 lead after a second-quarter touchdown. Delbarton narrowed the gap in the third quarter with a field goal, making it 7-3, but Paramus Catholic responded with another score in the fourth quarter to push their lead to 13-3.
Delbarton's resilience showed as they rallied in the final minutes. Phillip Folmar powered through with a rushing touchdown, bringing the Green Wave within three points at 13-10. A big fourth down stop gave the Green Wave the ball back with under 90 seconds left. With the clock ticking down, VanRaaphorst delivered the decisive play, taking a Phillip Folmar pass to the house, giving Delbarton to a 17-13 lead that they held onto until the final whistle. This win improves Delbarton's record to 7-2 as they prepare for the next phase of their season.
Delbarton earned the #3 seed in the NJSIAA Non Public A playoffs and will host St. Augustine in the quarterfinal round on Saturday, November 16 at 1pm from Regan Field.
