The JV Basketball team finished its season at 25-4 with a Morris County Championship. The team's first loss was to Malvern Prep of Pennsylvania early in the season. They later made it to the finals of the Seton Hall Prep Christmas Tournament, losing to Seton Hall Prep to finish in second place. The other two losses were to Ridge and a very talented Bergen Catholic. Notable out of conference wins came against St. Joseph's Metuchen, Rutgers Prep, St. Joseph's Montvale, Gil Saint-Bernard, Regis, Blair, and DePaul Catholic.
After a season against some very difficult opponents, the team was ready for the Morris County Tournament. After defeating Boonton and Mount Olive, Delbarton moved on to the semifinals to face the #1 seed in the tournament, Madison. Madison showed why they were the #1 seed by coming out to an 18-8 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. However, Delbarton was able to fight its way to a 27-27 tie at halftime. After taking a 6 point lead at the end of the 3rd quarter, Madison was able to tie the game with a little over 1 minute left. Delbarton's patience and execution allowed
Colin Pajunas to make a layup with 4 seconds left to clinch a 58-56 victory.Â
Delbarton went on to face #2 Montville in the finals, held at Morristown Beard High School. The game was a hard fought battle by both sides with each team's defense leading the way for its offense. Delbarton went into halftime down by four points, but they came out of halftime with a fire that sparked an 8-0 run to take the lead. Delbarton worked hard to maintain that lead as Montville mounted multiple tries to reclaim the lead. Delbarton's free throw shooting, an impressive 17-18, solidified that Delbarton would not give up the lead. Once the final buzzer sounded, Delbarton was crowned Morris County Champions with a 54-44 victory over Montville.
Christian Seaman led the team in scoring with 19 points, followed by
Nick Treue with 12.Â
With this championship, and the fact that the team was undefeated against Morris County teams, Delbarton can truly say that it is the undisputed best JV Basketball team in Morris County.
