The Delbarton Track and Field team traveled to Morris Hills for the two-day NJAC Conference Championships and once again battled through weather to begin the postseason portion of the season.
Senior
Peter Donini continued his dominance this season with a win in the shot put at 62'4.25. In the discus, Peter was seeded 2nd behind a top thrower in the state from West Morris Central and threw 184'6 to take the victory and smash the Delbarton All-Time School record by nearly 20 feet. The discus record stood for 31 years before Peter's senior season.
Junior
Trevor Wyso threw personal bests in the shot and discus to join in on the team scoring. Wyso threw 138'7 for 6th overall and 46'7.75 for 8th in the shot put. Wyso is currently 11th all-time in the discus and has cracked the top 20 in the shot put at Delbarton School.
Senior
Johnathan Flores continued his stand-out season with a 5th place finish in the javelin at 159'0. Junior
Daniel Gallic had a personal best throw of 157'10 to secure 6th place. Flores is currently 9th all-time and Gallic is 12th in Delbarton School history.
Junior
Martin Hindelong once again battled state-caliber local competition in the high jump, finishing at 6 feet and a 5th place finish. Hindelong is the defending Morris County Champion and is tied for 6th all-time in Delbarton history. Junior
Alexander Makovsky got back on track clearing all of his heights with no misses through 12 feet to finish 4th in the conference. Alex is currently tied for 10th all-time.
Junior
Aidan Ponzio scored 6th place in the long jump at 20'7.5 then ran over to the 110 meter hurdle finals where he finished in 7th with a personal-best time of 15.59. Ponzio is currently 5th all-time in the long jump and nearly broke the top 10 in the hurdles with his most recent race.
Sophomore
Joshua Akakpo once again showed the conference and county that he is a serious contender with a strong 6th place finish in the 800m in a new personal best 2:00.46. Senior John Cuzzocrea ran in a highly competitive 3200m race finishing 7th with a 9:32.53. Freshman William Van Etten raced in the fastest heat of the 1600m finishing in 8th place with a 4:27.51. Will's time is the new Delbarton freshman record in the 1600m by almost 3 seconds, replacing the great Pat Schellberg's time from 2007.
The varsity team will be back in action at Boonton High School for the Morris County Championships 5/20-5/21. Go Green Wave!
