Delbarton and Don Bosco Prep skated to a hard-fought 1–1 tie on Tuesday night at Sportscare Arena, with both teams earning a point in what is shaping up to be a tightly contested Gordon Conference American Division race this winter.
The Green Wave struck first, converting on the power play just 2:46 into the opening period. Ayden Puppe drove hard to the net and finished in tight for his second goal of the season, giving Delbarton Green Wave an early edge.
Delbarton controlled much of the early play, outshooting Don Bosco Prep Hockey 7–1 out of the gate. The Ironmen broke through with 6:48 remaining in regulation when Preston Ferro scored from near the slot to tie the game at 1–1.
From there, goaltender Paul Insauto took over, turning aside every chance the rest of the way and finishing with 23 saves to preserve the tie. Delbarton nearly regained the lead late in regulation when Marko Zimovcak blasted a shot off the top corner of the crossbar, but the puck stayed out.
The Green Wave had one last golden opportunity in overtime, earning a 4-on-3 power play in the final minute. Don Bosco's penalty kill held firm over the final 50.6 seconds, sealing the draw.
Both teams walk away with a point in the standings, and the rivalry resumes quickly, as Delbarton and Don Bosco Prep are set to meet again this Sunday night.
