When the playing surface shifts from green turf of the gridiron or pitch to white ice of the arena, the intense rivalry between Delbarton and Bergen Catholic only heats up. This year's first tilt was not different. The Green Wave gained some measure of winter revenge, as they beat the rival Crusaders 2-0 in a physical and board rattling game, to remain undefeated on the young season.

Jason Cai was an unbreachable wall stopping shot after shot in a first period that saw Bergen Catholic get the better of the play. Cai credits "a nice talking to" by Bruce Coach Shatel at the end of the first for sparking the team's dominant play in the second and third periods. Cai would finish the game with 16 saves, earning his first shutout of the season.

The Green Wave offense would repay their goaltender's first period heroics by breaking the deadlock with 2:16 to go in the second. Duncan Stewart '23 netted his team-leading third goal with the help of defenseman Dante Rodriguez '25 who logged his second assist of the young season. 

The third period was all Green Wave. Hayden Bright, '24 provided an insurance goal four minutes into the third and Bergen Catholic would not be able to come back.  Jack Olsen and Jack Fidacaro would assist on the big insurance goal from Bright.

Delbarton's grittiness was on full display for the duration of the third period. The team did the dirty work required to close out a tough and talented BC team. From a crucial penalty kill to blocked shots, from dominating time of possession to physical play, the Green Wave not only secured the shutout win but proved that they will be a force in Gordon Conference. 

The team will next take the ice December 20, 2022 in an away game at Austin Preparatory School.
