All of the Green Wave runners approached each race as an opportunity to challenge themselves and see what they could do. Running hard over a long distance takes a lot of willpower. Successful cross country runners know that racing is 90% mental and 10% guts. This is why the team's focus on mentally preparation was so important, Throughout the season runners fine-tuned their race plans (when to attack, when to settle), and a time to "get our head in the game" and focus on a positive mindset. Most of our races hinged on the 4th, 5th, and 6th team finishers. The point margin gained by our 4-5-6 runners was always greater than the point margin of our 1-2-3 runners. This is how cross country meets are won. By teams! We proved ourselves to be a strong team, because we all played our part in the team effort.
Before the Morris County MS XC Class Races at Greystone Park on October 2, Colin Boler (Delbarton class of '23), who is now running at Princeton, came by to share some race advice and encouraging words with the team. He must have been inspiring, because everyone raced extremely hard. All of my time predictions were absolutely shattered. These sorts of dramatic drops in time can be attributed to two things. First, racing challenges us to push ourselves harder and rise to the level of competition. Second, the self-confidence gained from experience allows us to test our limits and trust our bodies' ability to endure.
The team went undefeated (5-0) in dual meets this year.
The team finished 5th in the Group 1 Boys County Championship Race.
