The Green Wave Basketball team returns to action this season after a successful 20-5 season and second consecutive Morris County Tournament championship.
The team will be led by returning All-County players
Michael Van Raaphorst '24 and
Lincoln Zimmermann '24.
Will McGinty '24 will also run the offense and return at the point guard position after leading the way for the Green Wave last season. Seniors
Jake Bell '24,
Jimmy Hughes '24, and
Johnny Riley '24 also look to contribute this season. Sharpshooting sophomores
Luke Azzinaro '25,
Anthony Palumbo '25, and
Patrick Mahoney '25 will step up and fill some spots lost from last season on the offensive end. "As a team, we want to win the conference and the county championship for the third consecutive year, says senior Michael Van Raaphost. "We want to have a deep run in the state playoffs to prove to ourselves that we can hang with some of the top teams in the state."
Andrew Chobor '25,
Lucas Cardinale '25, and Günther Neumann '26 will add some depth at both guard positions and should be solid contributors this season. "Our team's biggest strength is our ability to play fast and score in transition," says Van Raaphost." What the Green Wave lacks in size, they make up for in speed. They will be looking to push the pace and spread the floor while continuing to make defense their calling card. "As a team, we have placed an emphasis during our practices on limiting turnovers, taking smart shots, and building our team chemistry," says senior
Lincoln Zimmermann. "We have a lot of depth this year and I have confidence that everyone that comes off the bench can contribute in the same way that I did last year."
Delbarton opens the preseason on Tuesday, December 5 and the regular season begins on Thursday, December 14 on the road vs. Hanover Park. The team faces a tough four game road trip to open the season, before hosting Morristown before the JP Flynn Holiday Tournament.
Best of luck to first-year head coach
Matt Crane as he takes over for long-time head coach Dan Whalen.
