Delbarton Hold Off Late Surge, Opens Season 4-0 With 50-47 Win Over Ridge

Delbarton survived a late surge from Ridge to secure a 50–47 win as part of the Rose City Classic on Saturday at FDU, improving to 4–0 on the season.

The Green Wave controlled much of the early action, leading Ridge 11–9 after one quarter before creating separation in the second. Delbarton's defense tightened, limiting the Red Devils to just one field goal over the eight-minute stretch, and the Green Wave carried a 22–16 lead into halftime.

Ridge adjusted coming out of the break, attacking more aggressively and looking to draw fouls. The approach paid off, as Ridge got Delbarton into the bonus and knocked down five free throws in the third quarter. Despite shots still struggling to fall, Ridge briefly grabbed the lead, and the game was tied 31–31 heading into the fourth.

The final quarter was a back-and-forth battle, with the teams tied at 34, 40, and again at 42 with 1:16 remaining. With the pressure mounting, sophomore Nick Treue delivered the biggest shot of the night, burying a three-pointer with 48.6 seconds left to put Delbarton ahead by three. Moments later, an and-one extended the lead to six.

Ridge responded with a quick basket to cut the margin to four, but after falling behind by six again with 16 seconds remaining, Sidd Narayanabhatla hit a deep three with 0.3 seconds left and was fouled. Attempting to intentionally miss the free throw, the shot failed to hit the rim, resulting in a violation. Once the ensuing inbound was touched, the clock expired, sealing the Green Wave victory.

Stephen Kmetz led Delbarton with his first double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and pulling down a game-high 16 rebounds. Gunther Neumann also finished with 11 points, while Treue added seven points, highlighted by the decisive late three. Veer Dhall chipped in eight points, six rebounds, and three steals as Delbarton closed out another tight win.
