Varsity Basketball Season End With Opening Round Loss to Paramus Catholic

Delbarton Basketball's 2025–26 season came to a close on Wednesday night, as the Green Wave dropped a hard-fought 65–61 decision to Paramus Catholic in the opening round of the 2026 NJSIAA Non-Public Tournament.

The visiting Paladins built an early cushion and withstood a late Delbarton surge to earn the victory, handing the Green Wave a narrow defeat despite a spirited fourth-quarter rally to cut a big deficit.

Paramus Catholic set the tone early, jumping out to a 17–11 lead after one quarter and extending the advantage to 35–22 by halftime. Delbarton responded after the break, trimming the deficit with a stronger third quarter thanks to great defensive plays and timely scoring.  The team then made a full push in the final eight minutes, but fell just short of the victory. The Green Wave outscored the Paladins 22–16 in the fourth, but the comeback came up just short as Paramus Catholic hit timely free throws down the stretch.

Senior Gunther Neumann led all scorers for Delbarton with 17 points in his final Delbarton game, adding three rebounds, a block, and a steal. Stephen Kmetz followed with a well-rounded performance, posting 14 points, eight rebounds, and contributions across the stat sheet. Austin Kolakowski added 13 points, including a pair of three-pointers, while Nick Treue chipped in 11 points and five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Delbarton showed resilience throughout the night, with multiple players stepping up in key moments. The Green Wave finish the season with a 16–10 record with steady development over the course of the winter.
