Delbarton opened the 2025–26 basketball season with an impressive 58–33 victory over Regis (NY) on Saturday, controlling the game from the opening tip and showcasing depth, balance, and defensive intensity for Coach Crane.
The Green Wave set the tone early, taking a 13–7 lead after the first quarter before stretching the lead with a dominant second frame. Delbarton outscored Regis 16–5 in the second quarter to take a 29–12 advantage into halftime, fueled by strong ball movement and timely shots from beyond the arc.
Regis showed some push coming out of the break, outscoring Delbarton 11–9 in the third quarter, but the Green Wave quickly responded. Delbarton closed the game with authority, scoring 20 fourth-quarter points to put the contest away and seal the season-opening win.
Offensively, Delbarton received contributions throughout the lineup. Senior captain Gunther Neumann led all scorers with 13 points, while Austin Kolakowski followed with 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists in a well-rounded performance. Stephen Kmetz chipped in nine points, six rebounds, and two steals, while Delbarton also got key scoring from captain Veer Dhall (6 points) and James Gaven (5 points).
Defensively, the Green Wave was locked in, holding Regis to just 12 first-half points and forcing turnovers, finishing with eight steals as a team. Delbarton also controlled the glass, limiting second-chance opportunities throughout the afternoon.
The victory moves Delbarton to 1-0 on the season as the Green Wave builds momentum early in the winter campaign.
