Ryan Johnson Sets Multiple Records At NYC Armory

The 55m dash is a test of raw speed and power. At nearly every high school indoor track meet in the country, runners compete in the approximately seven second race to see whose fast twitch muscle fibers propel them to the line first. Frequently, athletes from the major fall and spring sports compete in Indoor Track in this event to prioritize max speed development. Simply put, the event is intended to find the fastest athlete. In such a competitive event, Ryan Johnson has launched himself into the conversation for fastest high school runner in the country.

Over the January 20 weekend, Ryan competed at the Armory Officials Hall of Fame Invitational in Manhattan. At the record breaking meet featuring teams from around the country including powerhouses such as The Bullis School and Cedar Park Texas, Ryan Johnson was one of the stars. In the 55m dash prelims, Ryan blew away the field in a personal best of 6.41.  In only the prelims, his time marked a personal best, school record, and Morris County Record! Several hours later, Ryan came back for more in the final. Ryan executed a flawless race, clocking a blazing fast time of 6.39. Not only did Ryan crush the field, but he also set the Meet Record, lowered his Morris County Record from hours before, ran into the top 15 all-time in NJ history, and set a US #11 mark!

Ryan has solidified himself as the fastest man in Delbarton and Morris County history with his performance over the weekend. Looking forward, Ryan will be back in action on January 29th at the Morris County Championships. More to come! Go Green Wave!
