Delbarton, ranked No. 4 in the NJ.com Top 20, opened its road schedule with an emphatic 7-1 victory over No. 3 St. Augustine on December 17 at Hollydell Ice Arena. Senior captain Jack Gerne led the charge, registering his first career hat trick and adding an assist. After a scoreless first period, the Green Wave broke through in the second with goals from Gerne, Jack Ross, and Dante Rodriguez, building a commanding 3-0 lead and setting the tone for the rest of the game.
The offensive firepower continued in the third period as Gerne netted two more goals to complete his hat trick, while Marco Zimovcak and Aidan Pasic each added another tally. Zimovcak also contributed two assists in a stellar all-around performance. Ross, who recorded a goal and two assists, was a key playmaker throughout the game. Delbarton capitalized on their offensive opportunities, outshooting St. Augustine 38-18 and displaying their ability to execute under pressure. Senior keeper George Cote made 17 stops for his first victory of the season.
This dominant victory avenged Delbarton's 4-2 loss to St. Augustine in last year's Non-Public state semifinal. It also set a strong tone for their 2024-25 campaign, as the Green Wave looked cohesive and efficient on both ends of the ice. With this result, Delbarton improved to 1-0-1 on the season and reaffirmed their position as one of the top teams in the state.
