In a thrilling display of skill and perseverance, Delbarton's golf team triumphed at the prestigious Tournament of Champions (TOC) held yesterday at the Raritan Valley Country Club. The team clinched their victory with a commanding 13-stroke lead over second-place Christian Brothers Academy (CBA), finishing with a total score of 299 to CBA's 312. This victory marks Delbarton's third overall TOC title and their first since 2000. It also signifies their first non-public "A" title since 2010.
The standout performance of the day came from Will Kramer, who led Delbarton with a stellar 1-over-par 73. John Myles Dziadzio and junior Matthew Lu both contributed significantly, each shooting a 2-over 74. Junior Jake Kurtzman, the team's second seed, rounded out the scoring with a solid 6-over 78.
"Today was a fun day," remarked head coach Sean Flanagan, reflecting on the team's performance. "The team has been playing really well all season and they have been incredibly consistent. The toughest part of today was picking the four guys who would play because our team is so deep. It's been a real nice problem to have all season. They are a tight group who support one another no matter who is playing, so this was a full team victory."
The depth and camaraderie of Delbarton's squad were evident, not just in their play, but in their support for each other. Captain Jack Lobosco, although not competing, was present to cheer on his teammates, as were the team captains from the past two seasons. Their presence and encouragement underscored the team's unity and collective spirit.
"There were a ton of really talented teams in today's event, so I'm proud of the boys for staying in the moment and posting four impressive scores in the biggest event of the year," added Coach Flanagan.
This remarkable achievement caps off a season marked by consistent excellence and teamwork. #1 ranked Delbarton's victory at the TOC not only adds another prestigious title to their record but also sets a high standard for the seasons to come. The future looks bright for Delbarton golf, with a roster full of talented and dedicated players ready to continue the legacy.
