Delbarton Wins an OT Thriller 5-4 Over CBA

In a thrilling showdown at SportsCare Arena on Thursday, Delbarton edged #1 Christian Brothers Academy 5-4 in overtime to remain unbeaten at 7-0-1. The matchup of two of New Jersey's premier hockey programs lived up to its billing, with both teams trading momentum throughout regulation. CBA jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first period thanks to goals from Nicholas Desiderio and Logan Kenney, while Delbarton's Ayden Puppe got the Green Wave on the board. The Colts extended their lead to 4-3 by the end of the second period, despite tallies from Jack Gerne and Jack Ross for Delbarton.

Delbarton clawed back in the third period, dominating puck possession with 36 shots on goal to CBA's 28. Sean O'Gwen delivered the equalizer late in the third while on a 5 on 3 powerplay, and the Green Wave's penalty kill unit neutralized both of CBA's power-play opportunities to keep the game level. Both goaltenders, Delbarton's George Cote and CBA's Shane Smith, made clutch saves late in regulation to force overtime. Cote finished with 24 saves, while Smith turned aside 31 shots in a valiant effort.

In the extra session, Egor Andreev emerged as the hero, capping off a two-point night with the game-winning one-timer to send Delbarton fans into a frenzy. Aidan Pasic led the team with three assists, facilitating the game winning goal to keep the Green Wave undefeated. The win marked a statement victory for Delbarton, as they outshot a formidable CBA squad and showcased their resilience in high-pressure moments. Delbarton's depth and balanced attack were on full display, with nine players registering points in the thrilling victory.

The Green Wave have a few days to rest and prepare for a bit matchup on Wednesday at Lawrenceville.  The team has a big set of games coming up in the coming weeks including St. Augustine, PDS and a tough road matchup with Brunswick School.  After January 16, the team doesn't have another regular season home game until February 13!
