Delbarton hockey solidified its place atop the New Jersey high school hockey scene with a decisive 3-1 victory over rival Don Bosco Prep at SportsCare Arena on January 7, 2025. In a clash of two top-ranked teams, No. 3 Delbarton (6-0-1) outshot and outpaced No. 2 Don Bosco (8-2) to remain unbeaten this season. The Green Wave dominated offensively, firing 40 shots on goal compared to Don Bosco's 20, while also excelling defensively with a standout performance by goaltender George Cote, who recorded 19 saves and posted a stellar .950 save percentage. It was the program's first win over Don Bosco Prep since the 2022-23 season.
The game opened with both teams trading blows in the first period. Don Bosco struck first with Erik Wrynn finding the back of the net off an assist from Niko Pappachristou. However, Delbarton quickly responded as Egor Andreev leveled the score to close out the period at 1-1. The second period proved to be the turning point for Delbarton. Aidan Pasic, who had a standout game with a goal and an assist, gave the Green Wave the lead, and Michael Pirot extended it to 3-1 on a one-timer, with assists from Dante Rodriguez, who tallied two on the night. Despite their best efforts, Don Bosco struggled to generate quality scoring opportunities, as Delbarton's penalty kill unit successfully neutralized the Ironmen's power play.
Don Bosco's goaltender, John Gazzola, kept his team in contention with a remarkable 37 saves and a .925 save percentage. However, Delbarton's relentless pressure proved too much to overcome. With their undefeated record intact, Delbarton sent a strong message to their state rivals as they now move on to face another Gordon Conference rival on Thursday, hosting CBA.
