The Delbarton hockey team remained unbeaten on the young season with a 4–2 victory over Northern Highlands in its home opener on Thursday at SportsCare Arena.
After a Thomas Keough penalty, Northern Highlands struck first on a power-play goal midway through the opening period. The Green Wave responded quickly evening the score at 1–1 with a power-play tally of its own from Aidan Pasic, assisted by Sean O'Gwen, sending the teams into the first intermission deadlocked.
Delbarton took control in the second period, scoring twice to build a 3–1 advantage. Cole Hurst put the Green Wave ahead with a goal set up by Michael Pirot, and Matthew Peng extended the lead just moments later off a feed from Jacob Gomez.
Northern Highlands cut the deficit to one early in the third period off a failed clear by the Green Wave, but Delbarton answered again to seal the win. Gavin Guo finished a strong shift with a goal, assisted by Thomas Keough and Peng, restoring a two-goal cushion and closing out the scoring.
With the win, Delbarton improves to 3–0 on the season, while Northern Highlands drops to 2–1.
