The Delbarton hockey team continued its dominant season with a commanding 4-0 victory over St. Augustine on Monday, improving their record to 15-1-1 and punching its ticket to the Gordon Cup final. The Green Wave displayed a balanced offensive attack and a rock-solid defensive effort to secure the win.
Delbarton set the tone early, scoring two goals in the first period. Jacob Gomez opened the scoring, banging in a rebound in front of the net, with assists from Matthew Good and Dante Rodriguez. Rodriguez then found the back of the net himself with a beautiful shot fake and backhanded goal, assisted by Marco Zimovcak, giving Delbarton a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
In the middle frame, Egor Andreev extended the lead with a redirection off a shot from the blueline from Sean O'Gwen. Delbarton capped off the scoring in the third period when Aidan Pasic netted an unassisted empty net goal to seal the 4-0 victory.
While the offense shined, the defensive performance was equally impressive. Goalie George Cote was flawless between the pipes, stopping all 22 shots he faced to earn the shutout. Delbarton also showcased strong penalty-killing prowess, successfully killing off all five St. Augustine power-play opportunities.
With this win, Delbarton heads back to the Gordon Cup Final on Wednesday night (pending weather), where they face CBA for the third time this season. The Green Wave are 2-0 vs. the Colts this year, securing a 5-4 OT win on home ice and a 6-0 win at CBA. Puck drop is 7:30pm at Codey Arena.
