Delbarton senior Sean Dooley was named Delbarton's 2025 Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA), a prestigious honor awarded at the 32nd annual Scholar-Athlete Luncheon held Sunday, May 18, at the Pines Manor in Edison.
Each year, the NJSIAA recognizes outstanding student-athletes from across the state who excel both in the classroom and in athletics. According to the NJSIAA website, since the program's inception in 1993, nearly 9,900 student-athletes have been honored, with more than $3 million in college scholarships awarded. Sean now joins this elite group of high-achieving young men and women.
"Sean is the epitome of what it means to be a scholar-athlete," said Delbarton Athletic Director Dr. Tony Negrin. "The Delbarton Athletic Department is very proud of all that Sean has accomplished during his tenure as a member of the Green Wave community. This award is well deserved, and I know that Sean is going to make a positive impact on every single person he interacts with during his life. That is just the individual he is—one who is selfless and caring."
A standout runner for the Delbarton track and field program, Sean delivered an exceptional senior campaign. In the fall, he placed 13th at the NJSIAA Group Championships in cross country, earning a berth to the prestigious Meet of Champions. During the winter track season, he continued to shine, finishing 12th in the 1600m at the Meet of Champions and qualifying for Nationals in both the 1600m and as part of Delbarton's distance medley relay team.
"Sean Dooley is the epitome of what it means to be a scholar athlete at Delbarton School," said Track and Field head coach Andrew Sherwood. From the moment he arrived on campus freshman year, Sean positively impacted every group he joined, from volunteer work, to the most challenging classes, and competing at the highest levels for Delbarton track and field. He is a champion, a leader, and a true Delbarton man."
Sean's achievements on the track are matched only by his dedication in the classroom and his character as a leader and role model among his peers.
The Delbarton School community congratulates Sean on this remarkable accomplishment and look forward to the impact he will undoubtedly make in the years to come.
